Prestige one MKII

Prestige One is a classical 2-way speaker with natural, relaxed sound and detailed presentation. This is the MK2 version, having a new crossover design, higher sensitivity and higher crossover frequency than the previous speaker. This version is designed to target more proportial and accurate bass extension and truly natural midrange presentation. In the new version the -3dB point is slightly higher, but the bass transmission is flat, mids are lively and the speaker will be liked surely by many. In fact, this speaker is matching the best Seas traditions and the speaker's quality is rised up again with the new crossover to show the best sides of these high quality loudspeakers.

On this point it might be wise to mention, that the moderate bass levels presented by this speaker show in some circumstanses favorable music characteristics. In our opinion it is not always fair, if the speaker goes so low, it is more important if the bass presentation lacks any distortion and is correct. In smaller rooms or if the room is disposed to low frequency resonances, any loudspeaker having a moderate bass transmission will have vivid sound if we compare to speakers with emphasized bass transmission. If used as front speaker in home theater system, the low end could be extended by an active sub and the whole system would present accurate, wide band soundstage.

The new crossover is built only with air core inductors and if compared to the component values in the previous version their highest value is lowered. This is in itself triggering some sound improvements, in terms of phase accuracy, lower group delay and distortion figures in the crossover region.

Elements:
Seas 27TDFC Sonotex dome.
Seas ER18RNX paper and reed cone midwoofer.

Sensitivity: 86 dB @ 1W
Frequency response: 60 - 22.000 Hz +/- 3dB
Crossover frequency : 2400 Hz
Box tuning: 54 Hz
Impedance : 6 ohm

Technical desription:

The dome is the Seas 27TDFC, havig very good distortion figures in the low region and slightly rising response curve in the last octave which can be handled very well. It contains rear chamber and the used ferrofluid allows higher load tolerance. At the low frequnecies it has excellent parameters and its sound matches really good to the paper cone woofers. It is an excellent performer.

The woofer is the new Seas design, the ER18RNX, with reed and paper mixture cone, pressed together and without front coating. This element has - according to the measurements - very clean sound at the bass and midbass frequencies, like the best Scan Speak products. The speaker contains a well designed motor with copper ring at the T pole piece, similarly to the motors of the Excel series. This driver is the first product of the new prestige line where Seas has rised again the performance. This is Excel technology on Prestige price, as we can read on some websites. The bass and the midbass response is very clean while its higher frequency sound represents the same transparency as we used to hear from Seas drivers.

It is worth to mention, that there is one - a bit unusual, but well funtioning - feature of the new crossover, which is illustrated on the diagram below:

/images/diykits/seas_prestige_one/seas_prestige_one_mk2_crossover.png

The diagram shows that the L1 and L2 coils, in their primary role as components of the second order low pass network fulfill one other funtion too, namely they are components of the LRC filters correcting the transfer funtions of the ER18 midwoofer. This solution serves the optimal working environment for the ER18 while maintaining good sensitivity and lively sound.

The crossover components are made from polipropylene MKP capacitors and air coils exclusively. The crossover is assembled from elements having maximum 5% tolerance. Tube amp owners may ask for extra impedance flattening cirquit for correcting the speaker impedance to drive the speaker more easily.
The cabinet is built from MDF and proportionally damped with bitumen plates and two types of other material, Acustilux and 7 mm felt for optimal frequency dependent damping.
With this solution the cabinet and the woofer is playing quite relaxed, paceful sound where secondary reflexions are significantly lowered, while the cabinet is still not overdamped in sense of keeping necessary free airspace around the woofer. The cabinet volume is 14.3 L, with bass port placed on the rear.

Other information:

The speaker has two crossovers available:
The basic version contains good MKP capacitors, wirewound resistors, air core inductors and standard, but audio quality speaker cables.

The upgraded crossovers have ClarityCap SA MKP before the tweeter and MOX resistors, air core inductors and Tritec OFC cables. The Clarity CAP represents detailed presentation, specially on lower volumes.

Placement:

For the best sound it is recommended to place the speakers 30-40 cm away from the wall.

Speaker in Kit form:

Our company sells this speaker also in a loudspeaker Kit form, with or without cabinets.
If one is building the kit, we recommend to order cabinets, since the speaker quality is guaranted only if proper cabinets are used. The Kit contains full description, crossover networks and damping material, the terminals, bass reflex port material and the four drivers. Delivery of cabinets in custom colors is also possible.

Warranty statement:

We give two years warranty for our products. Special rules may apply, if the damage is caused by incorrect treatment on the loudspeaker membranes or cabinets, where the warranty can not be automatically enforced.
But there are replacement voice coils available from Seas and a repair is not impossible. Our company will be helpful in case of eventual damage and will try to de the best when some loudspeaker components have to be repaired.
